Artist Antoh Mansueto explains how Aceto was born: “The drawing ‘aceto’ is a work-not-work. It’s part of what I call continuous creation. It starts with a painting of mine that I didn’t like. I repainted over it, using that 20th-century technique that displays pictorial effects, like overlapping brushstrokes on backgrounds, which in ancient times were only “under” the work, or a semi-finished product. No sooner said than done, a corner of the new painting accidentally intrigued me. I photographed it. Then Silvana (our artistic director) and I worked on the colors on the computer until we achieved something we were convinced of, perfect for creating a new scarf, wearable art. That’s how Aceto was born, the work that isn’t there. Continuous creation is the process, the work is the eternal instant, and then the creation continues.
